Restoring Harmony to Ecosystems One Bite at a Time

The rapid spread of invasive species is a threat to the health of all Maryland’s ecosystems.  Conventional methods for dealing with invasive species come with their own set of unintended consequences.   The use of herbicides causes water pollution, bio accumulates in the food chain, and effects non–targeted species.
Mowing is not feasible or desirable in many areas due to steep slopes and forested terrain.

The use of goats to control invasives and replace them with organic fertilizer is a long proven alternative.  Goats have been successfully used to manage invasive plants in many Parks and Universities across the country, including the Great Smokey Mountains National Forest, University of Maryland, Arlington National Cemetery, and Towson University.

Our herd was started on our farm in Harford County, Maryland to control and remove the Asian Bittersweet, Multiflora Rose, Mile-a-Minute, and Honey Suckle which was killing our forest.  While not an invasive, uncontrolled grape vine will strangling and pulling down trees, the goats love to eat this as well.

Harmony Herd has successfully restored our forest to health and is now ready and willing to come restore yours! The goats are very effective at clearing brush from fields, fence lines, forests, storm water ponds, or just about anywhere you don't want it!

An additional benefit of using Harmony Herd at school yards, universities, and public areas is the smiles they will bring to  students and patrons (please see our photo gallery!)
